Book Blogger Hop 7/1-7/4

Book Blogger Hop

The blog hop is hosted by Jennifer at Crazy-for-Books

This week's question...

“What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?“

My answer...

There's no simple answer...or maybe there is. It just has to keep my interest. I need a hook to grab me which is probably why I love mysteries and suspense so much. Although, even if I'm bored after a couple of pages, I do continue on if it's part of a series I'm already reading or an author I love. I keep going in the hopes it will get better.

I'm one of those that usually reads everything I start even if I don't like it, but if I find I really don't like something, I'll put it aside and read something else. I'll probably eventually go back to the book I didn't like but it could be months later. I've found that sometimes I end up loving the book. So, it could have just been my mood at the time.

  1. Mood is important for sticking to reading a book, I agree. Have a great weekend!

  2. Hi Yvonne,
I completely agree with you...I think the book has to grab you and you have to be in the right mood!

  3. These book blogger hop questions just get better and better. This one looks easy but I think it’s a trick question. We all know it’s the same answer – the writing – but we all have different perspectives of what good writing is.

Hop on over to my blog at http://www.howardsherman.net and read my three-prong answer as I explain why I’ll decide to pick up a book or put it down in under sixty seconds.

    Happy July 4th Weekend!

  4. You're right--sometimes my mood is not quite in sync with the book I'm currently reading (or trying to read).

Have a nice, long weekend Yvonne.

  5. Hopping through. I do put books down occasionally, but not that often. Like you, I often think that if I don't like a book it's because I'm not in the right mood.

  7. What keeps me reading more than the first 4-5 pages? When I start to read a book I try to read at least 25-30 pages before I put the book down, to go do something else. After that I read at least to page 50 or 60 before I decide if I will read the whole book, or give up on it completely.

  9. I am your new GFC follower.
I think you and I are on the same page in our answers to the question.

I started reading a book the last month and it was suppose to be a very good book. But after giving it a couple of chapters I just couldn’t get into it. I put the book aside to read another day. I don’t like to do that because I feel as if my mind might have had too many distractions and I didn’t give the book a chance. So I always try to wait for another day to give it another go. I have so many other books calling to me from my to-be-read list that it can really be distracting. READ ME! READ ME!
I prefer reading and reviewing Christian Fiction but I do read a varity of other books. I just can’t handle too scary or gory. Suspense and Mysteries I like. No explicit adult books either if I do find one I really want to read I just skip over the x-rated stuff. So what genre do I read?
